Salsa - The Dance Craze Is In S'pore

Image
Picture & article courtesy of The New Paper dated 29 Sep 2006 (Fri) I guess I finally know this dance is so popular nowadays in Singapore that my friend, Eriko is learning it. I think if it is not for my physical disability, I may consider learning it as it looks like a good way to unwind. Thanks to The New Paper for featuring this. I got to know more about the dance. POPULAR DANCE Mr Jackson Tan, 41, director of JJSalsa Rengue at Murray Terrace, said: 'Though we teach other forms of dance, salsa is the most popular. When I first started six years ago, I only had three students. Over the years, I've taught more than 3,000 people. 'Every day, I see an average of 40 students who take between six and eight months to complete the basic, intermediate and advance levels. Also popular as street-style music, salsa has come a long way. In the last decade, it has exploded, thanks to some help from the music industry. In the '90s, Latin musician Carlos Santana introduced salsa

Birthday Gift Shopping & Shocking News

I met up with Richard at Sim Lim Square to shop for Stella's birthday gift. Since I was early, I decided to go & see see around to see what offers were available for her gifts. Thanks to my colleague, B for recommending the shop that really sold a good product at a bargain price, I feel. At first, we had wanted to give her the present with a bigger storage space, but Rich & I decided against it, as we felt that it was better to go for quality rather than storage space. If we were to mix & match the product, the product, which can go wrong anytime due to wear & tear, Stella will face problem if she were to send it for servicing. After the buying, Rich brought me to the Sim Lim Square foodcourt for dinner. I didn't know there was a foodcourt located at the basement. Since I was still coughing away, I had pig organ soup & Ju Hua Cha. Rich ordered a plate of rice & popiah. After the dinner, we chatted for a while, before heading to our bus stops for a bus r

What Is My Ideal Relationship?

Image
Your Ideal Relationship is Marriage You've dated enough to know what you want. And that's marriage - with the right person. You're serious about settling down some time soon. Even if you haven't met the person you want to get hitched to! What's Your Ideal Relationship? Got this from Sis Elaine's blog, I can't imagine we have the same views about relationship. :)

Today is my idol's birthday. Here's wishing him a happy birthday & hope that he can come up with more interesting movies and songs for us. :p

Dinner At J8

Was asked by Jason to meet him for dinner at J8. Rich was asked to come along but he was held back by his work. We had dinner at the food court where I had the beef noodle, while J had yong tau foo. It was a nice refreshing change to a simple fare that I suggested as I had been having too much good food recently. After the dinner, we went to Coffee Bean to try out the new drink, Banana drink. It was as ex as the Sunrise Orange and its flavour tasted like the banana sponge cake that I usually had. We chatted on a wide range of topics, from our friends to my job, before calling a nite at 9.30pm.

Dad's Singing Competition

Image
My brother & I were given tickets by our dad to attend the singing competition. At the same time, we were to support him. As the initial timing of the event was pretty long (was stated to be from 1pm to 10pm), my dad was kind enough to say that he will let us know the time to go down when it was 10 performances before his. My brother was the anxious one. He rushed me out of the house at about 2.45pm, got me into a cab ride (which he paid for) to the venue. Just as we reached, I got my dad's sms that he will be performing after 8 perfomances. Looks like my brother was right for once. Although we felt that dad sang well, he did not win anything, not even consolation prize. After the event, we went to look for a coffeeshop to have our dinner, but we couldn't find any good coffeeshop around there, so we decided to go to HDB Hub foodcourt for our dinner. Although the foodcourt was air conditioned, we were perspiring throughout the dinner, maybe due to the hot & spicy food w

HP shopping with Friend

Image
BenQ- Simmens EF81 Sony Ericcson K800I I went shopping at Compass Point with my friend, X. He had lost his hp when he went back to his homeland in early May. He asked me to accompany him to the M1 shop to look at the handphones. The shop was small, manned by 2 sales staff. It was a long & stuffy wait in the queue for an hour before it was our turn. At first, X wanted the BenQ phone, but the staff taking the order did not check the stock level carefully and did not note that the hp was out of stock. X then decided to take SE M600, but the store did not carry the colour he wanted - white. In the end, he selected the M800i. The 1st hp he selected had a broken warranty seal, so we requested for another set, which we were satisfied with. The model had its flaws though. The lens cover of the camera seems loose and may just fall off anytime. I asked X to send the hp for checks at Sony Ericcson if there is a need to. After purchasing the hp, we took a cab to my place as he said he missed

Dim Sum - Its Gastronomy

I met up with Sis Wendy & Richard for dinner at Marina Square in the evening. Rebecca, who was supposed to join us could not make it as she was down with flu. I just hope that she will be alright soon. Wendy & Richard were already at the meeting place when I reached there. I told both of them that my choice of the day was the abovenamed resturant. We nearly could not find the place, till I saw a sign on the wall as we neared the Centrestage that showed the name of the resturant. At first, Wendy didn't really want to try the resturant as the crowd seemed little & the food didn't seem nice, but Richard decided to give it a try. So into the resturant. The resturant is a HK Dim Sum Resturant that served some interesting and affordably priced side orders like Har Gow, Siew Moi, Popiah ( I think we ordered a set with apple filling), fried rice & noodles. They also have some interesting deserts like pomelo with sago & mango pudding. As we ate, we talked about a wid

Pic Courtesy of SBS Transit Ltd I will be applying for the SBS Transit Season Pass as I take their buses to work everyday. Usually, I spend about $4 a day just travelling to work. That does not include my Friday & Saturday gatherings. I find that it is quite worthwhile as I need to pay only $80, instead of $98 (UP) as I am an NTUC member. Finally found a way to really make use of the NTUC membership, instead of just earning the Linkpoints and paying for the subscriptions, which come up to about $108 per year. My mum has so far used 3000 Linkpoints to exchange for $20 NTUC Fairprice Voucher. I wish to express my thanks to Jason & my Mei Mei, ElaineSg for recommending me a few more new eating places to look at for an upcoming gathering that I will be having towards the end of the year. They want to help me to save money as they know that my crowd is huge, even bigger than Richard's gathering that day. I think I may just let this big group interact with one another, like wh

Dinner With Birthday Girl

I arranged with Jolene for a meet up at Bugis Junction yesterday for dinner. At first we could not think of a place to have our dinner. I decided to check out the Bugis Junction website for some ideas about where to go. We were sick & tired of the usual places like Sakae Sushi, Swensens & Pastamania. In the end, we settled for Resturant Hoshigaoka, A Japanese resturant that serves filling Bento set. Let me just say what you can find in the set. Rice Noodles Salad Salted veggie Salmon Japanese Green Beans Japanese beancurd The price was only about $22. As you can see the food sounds filling especially with the rice & noodles together on the same serving. I was telling Jolene that Wendy would have liked the food too if she was invited to join us. After the dinner, we took a short walk to Bugis Villiage as I wanted to get Joi Chua's latest album. I managed to find only the Singapore version but not the parallel import 1.Of course, the Singapore version is usually more exp

Happy Birthday to My Cousin - Jolene

Here's wishing my cousin, Jolene a happy 25th birthday tomorrow. I just hope that whatever she wishes for come true for her & her wedding with Mr Foon next month will not be hit by any further stunners. Just hope that my relatives give the young couple a chance to decide on what they want to do and don't put their fingers in them.

Shocker of The Day

I think this topic is on everyone's lips today. The surprising Thai military coup staged last nite. I do have relatives in Thailand, which my family visited them in 2000. I just hope that they are doing fine and be safe.

Moody Moody Day

Image
I was having a moody day today. So much so that I think I mistaken the place for an appointment. Lucky that the person was okay for me to postpone the appointment to Thursday. I am supposed to meet my cousin, Jolene, for dinner tomorrow. I am thinking to give her a treat since it will be her birthday on Thursday. Finally had the chance to take the disabled friendly bus today. The interior of the bus has a designated space for wheelchair bound passengers. The flight of steps is also low floor, making it easy for me to board the bus. The aircon was very very cold. I think I have to buy 4D tomorrow as I took the same bus with the same licence plate number !!!!

Happy Birthday To My Buddy- Richard

Just here to wish my buddy, Richard a happy 26th birthday in 30mins time. It has been a good time knowing u for the past ten years. We have come a long way. Here's wishing u a happy 26th birthday. Time for Character Makeover?

I am seriously thinking of a character makeover after hearing what someone told me that I was like a loanshark. When people see me, they think of money. But thanks to this person, I think she helped me see the light. I wonder if most of my friends think that way. Maybe I am too nice to help people to get their birthday wishes granted, I will usually ask the birthday boy or gal what they wanted as I have always been appointed the designated buyer since I worked in my current firm about two years ago. It ended up most of the time people get their wishes granted but some people in the gift-share did not say they had problems. I remember it happened a few times before, but I guess I didn't heed the signs. The problems are usually solved by me looking for a gift on a lower budget. Being the designated buyer, the good point is sourcing for bargains, but the bad point is u may lose friends if they feel u r too high. Maybe I value my friends more than my relatives, that's the reason wh

Finally Got My New Slideshow Up & Running

I managed to put my new slideshow up & running and in a viewable area too. Thanks to ElaineSg & my buddy, Richard for showing me the new site.

Dinner Nearly Spoiled

I was at Rich's birthday bash yesterday as all of you read from my previous entry. But when it came to the photo taking session with the whole group, my hp started to ring. As we have asked the waiter to help us take the pics with 3 cameras, ( Rich's camera, Jason's camera and my camera), I decided to wait till when the session had ended, and return that call. So this explains my awkard position during the photo taking session But the hp was still ringing as the session ended. I picked up the call and it was AF. She asked me in an angry voice, about why I took so long to answer her call. She said she was about to put down the phone. I told her I was having dinner with my friends. The tone of her voice was totally very rude & unfriendly. I nearly wanted to shout but I didn't want to attract the unnecessary attention of Richard's guests so I just stomached it. She also asked who I was having dinner with, I just told her it was with some of my friends which include

Operation R2 - Buddy's Birthday

Image
I was activated by Richard a month ago to help him out for his big birthday bash. It was his first major birthday celebration with such a big group of people. 12 people in total, most of them know him thru my introduction. I think some people were pretty surprised that there was such a big crowd!!! I guess Richard has a great personality, so he was able to get hold of so many people. He kept thanking me for helping to plan the bash. Dinner was at 6.30pm. Most of us were on time except for a few, who had events before that. Just a quick look at the people invited. I will start from the near end (left-right) Flo - Richard's net friend. Huiyu Lorraine - Richard's godsis Jimmy - Eriko & Bonnie's friend Richard Paul ( which is myself) Stella Caifeng Rebecca Jason Eriko Bonnie -Eriko's friend I can see that the birthday boy was very pleased to see that everyone was able to interact with each other without prompting and clicked so well. I think some of us actually exchange

Forbidden City - Portait of An Empress

Image
A historical retelling of the story of China's Empress Dowager, the story is seen from the eyes of an American painter, Kate Carl, who is commissioned to paint the Empress' portrait. The Empress recounts her amazing journey from a young imperial concubine to become the Empress of China and the pressures she faced. The musical explores the myths surrounding her reign, from the controversial death of her only son to her ambitious tussle for power. Picture & Synopsis Courtesy from SRT I was asked by my brother to accompany him for this musical last week. Since one of the members of the cast, Kit Chan is one of my fave singers of all time, I decided to accompany him, which means I finally had the chance to go to the Esplande for the first time. I must say the musical was not bad, except for the first part, where the old Empress Dowager was acting to provide the background story for the musical. The musical perked up only after Kit Chan appeared as the young imperial concubine

Surprise ROM Invitation

As I was shopping with my brother, I got a sms from C that she was inviting me for her ROM reception 3 weeks from now. I guessed she must have felt bad that Y had told me that she was invited, but I was not, so she decided to squeeze me into the already bulging list. It could be that her husband, whom I also know, was rather surprised that I was not invited and got her to add me into her list. I think her tables may not be enough!!! This is what I worry for the couple, so I feel bad also. I was able to read her mind about what she wanted. She wanted something practical so that she can use it for buying of furniture, electrical appliances or other stuff that can be used for their new flat. I discussed with Y about what to get for her and came to the conclusion that we should get our own gifts. Y was telling me that another one of our common friend, who is invited wanted to get necklace or earrings for her. I told Y that does this person know what does practical stuff means? I have a rou

Operation P2

I met up with my brother after work at the insturctions of my mum to get him some A Level Maths books to do, since he didn't want to work for his school term break. You must be wondering what is my mum thinking when a poly student is doing with A Level Maths? I personally can't see the link, and neither did my brother. He was also advised by mum to brush up his vocabulary of English words. This one, I have to agree as he barely scrapped through for his O Level English. The trip was a wasted one as we couldn't find a suitable A Level Maths book for him as the subject, I personally feel requires teaching & coaching before he could do the question. But the trip gave me a chance to perform Operation P2 at Din Tai Feng, a venue that I am looking at for my planned gathering. I must say the fried prwn rice , fried beef rice & veggie were not bad, but I was not too pleased with the Xiao Long Bao as it seemed to be oversteamed. The price was around $20 for each of us.

Nosey Parker & Charlie Chaplin

My colleague, Q told me that she was starting divorce proceedings against her husband at this moment after he beat her up in a quarrel a week ago. She was telling me that I wasn't observant enough as I didn't notice the injuries that were inflicted on her. I just told her that my work was too busy for me to show care & concern to you. Furthermore, you are only my colleague, I do not treat you like my close friend, as your actions towards me sometimes do not justify me to treat you as one. (The words in italics was my thoughts when she said the sentence.) Just a short while later, she was to comment that I walked like Charlie Chaplin, which I found it insulting, especially coming from someone whom I have known for quite a while. If someone on the street, whom has never met me before in person were to make this comment, I would just shrugged it off as there may be a chance that this person has not seen a person with my condition in his life. I nearly got into a big quarrel wi

Dial M for Romance

Image
On Monday, I saw my colleague, M boarding the same bus as I did with a big bonquet of flowers, which I think that it should be for his wife of a few years, L, who is also my colleague. The flowers could be for a special event that happen in this day between the couple, which I tried to ask M today, but he said. " 你跟踪我。”then his face turned red. I stopped my teasing further in order not to make him angry. This interesting epsiode made me think back about what I saw on a TV programme 2 weeks ago. In the show, which was about how to keep the passion going, no matter how long the relationship has been. I totally agree that the passion needs to be retained in a relationship, no matter how long the relationship has been. Otherwise, it could end up just like a normal hi bye friendship, & the parties may end up taking each other for granted. The TV show is on every Saturday @ 9.30pm on Channel 8. It is hosted by TV couple, Darren Lim & Evelyn Tan. I hope those people who are sucke

Be Understanding Friend

Some weeks ago, I got to know that one of my good friends, C was going for ROM with her partner of 4 and a half years in early October from a common friend of ours, Y. Y asked me if I want to share gift for the couple. How could I share a gift when I was not even invited by the person herself? I managed to get a clarification from C that she didn't invite me or any of my other common friends as there was not enough seats to go around the reception. I told her that as a friend, I can understand the hassle of the ROM and need to appease the parents & parents- in law. Furthermore, she is the eldest daughter in her family. Her parents, being traditional must have invited a lot of their relatives & friends to share the joy of the happy occassion. I told the couple in a meet up session not too long after that I do not mind if I am not invited to your reception. So long as you all are happy married to each other, as a friend, I will be happy for you.As for a make up dinner, u guy

Big Prison Cell- Suntec City

Image
Can you imagine that Suntec City was transformed to something like a "big prison cell" because of the upcoming IMF/ World Bank Meetings? Had to get in there after work to get some necessities. I was impressed by the work of our Police Force, Cisco Guards & Army Unit for being able to put up the high steel barricades , just to ensure that the delegates had a smooth meeting. Although the road closure meant traffic congestion around my office area, as all the traffic are diverted there, and a little inconvience may come up, due to the security cameras installed on the public buses plying in the area, security checks, I treat the extra distance that I need to walk from the temporary bus stop to my office an extra few minutes of excercise. A few extra minutes of walking will be better than stuck in the traffic jam for half an hour at the alternative route. That was what I had to endure when I came home from Suntec City today. Like what was being reported in the news tod

Will U Devote Your Life To Religion?

I was asked this question by mum just now as my brother was saying that one of his church preachers was devoting his life to Chirstianity for a nominal salary of $300 per month. If I were to be given the opportunity, I guess I would not be a preacher as :- I am not a person who is so crazy about religion. My mum always had trouble to drag me to her Singapore Soka Association meetings as I just do not feel like going and I can't click with those people who are in my age group. I am also not so crazy about religion too. I don't think I have the power to convince people to convert into my religion if I were to become a preacher. I don't think one can survive on a $300 salary per month. It is worse than NS. In order to survive in S'pore (if u r single, u may need about $700-$900 a month, if u r attached or married, u may spend about $1.5k per month. That does not include children's expenses if u have children) Do you guys agree?

Shopping & Eating Day

I had a eventful Saturday, after not going out for the past two weekends due to Sickness Hard to get dates for myself (Maybe my friends are really busy) Busy with work, leading to stress, therefore not wanting to go out for meet ups. While was on my way to my appointment, I messaged & called Eriko to wish her good luck for her audition. I could sense that she was quite nervous as she said that she didn't prepare much for her audition due to work commitments. I gave her some words of encouragement as well, as I felt that she had the talent to go through. I was to receive an sms later in the evening that she was selected. I am quite happy for her. Met up with Rebec at Levander MRT as she wanted to go to Concourse to get some gifts for her school children. We reached there and saw that the basement was filled with the following activities / stalls. A toy fair cum sale A book fair A Soduku Challenge A stall that is always selling cheap CDs (The CDs consist of the latest albums as w

Irritating Midi Sound Wednesday

I started work with an irritating midi sound coming from the Prawn Manager’s Room. It was his new toy, which I believe is a whistle like item for his sick mum. Little did I know that this little toy was going to make its noise every 10 minutes, thanks to his constant playing or testing of the little toy. It made me distracted and frustrated at work today. If the b*** & the prawn manager can badmouth or backstab me to LB, saying that I talk to clients loudly and rudely and should behave like a whisperer, why is it the irritating sound that came from the toy happen when LB was not in office today? 请 问 天 理 何 在 ?

Forbidden City- Portait of an Empress

Image
I will be accompanying my brother for this show on next Friday ( 15 Sep 2006). He said that it has been a while since he last caught a play He said that his school CASSC group had recommended this play. Although the school had offered subsided tickets @ $38, I guess the seat was not that good and he had to write a report on that, which was what he hates most. For me, it will be a chance for me to see Kit Chan performing on stage, since I didn't get to see her perform the Chinese version of "Snow Wolf Lake". Her role was taken over by Nandia Chan. I think the play will be good. Let's hope I will not be disappointed. We will be sitting on Level 2 of the Esplande with the $90 ticket price.

Birthday Bash Planning In Progress

I know that my birthday is still some time away as you can see from the day counter at the top of my blog page. But I am currently thinking of the venue to host the event, with the date most likely fixed on 16 Dec 2006 (Saturday) for a dinner gathering The places that I have in mind for my 27th birthday bash are as follows:- Crystal Jade Korean Resturant at Ngee Ann City Din Tai Feng at Paragon The Mind Cafe at Boat Quay / Prinsep Street The Settlers' Cafe at Boat Quay / Holland Villiage The size of my guest list should be somewhat similar to the one last year, which means about 10 -13 guests. For choice 1, about half of my guests have tried the food there before, having been there for one of our friend's birthday bash. It is very good, But I wonder if they have a big table to cater to all of us. For choice 2, many of my guests have heard that the food is nice, but never had the chance to try before. But I have heard some negative comments as well. For the above choices, there

Doc Orders Paul To Stay Home

I have been having dry throat, cough & slight blocked nose since last Thursday. I tried out the Becreol cough mixture since Saturday but it only helped to reduce the phelgm. Therefore decided to see the doctor today. He gave me the following:- Cough mixture - 3 times a day -may cause drowsiness Throat inflammation tablet -3 times a day - to complete Runny nose- 3 times a day. Wish to express my thanks to Eriko & Jason who asked me to take care after hearing that I am down. I appreciate the concern.
F.I.R. - Tian Tian Ye Ye Nice FIR Song. The album is good.

Happy Teachers' Day

Just wish to wish all the teachers in Singapore a Happy Teachers' Day today. This includes my two teachers friends, Rebecca & Krys. Talking about teachers, I think the teacher that touched my heart the most would be my Secondary 3 to 4 Maths teacher. It is a pity that she has retired from the profession. She was the teacher that took me into Interact Club, the only ECA that I have taken up in my entire school life. She has the great patience in teaching Elementary Maths. I used to fail Maths in my lower secondary school years, but it was her patience and teaching methods that changed my grades around. In the end, I was able to get into the course that I hoped for with the Maths score. I am very thankful to you, Mrs S. Y. Tan, former Maths teacher of Serangoon Garden Sec School.

What A Rude Client

My day was spoiled by this particular soccer club client that I have, whose treasurer insulted my working capablity if I know how to do a tax computation? I was so pissed with that person, but couldn't shout at him, for fear that the b*** will "report" my "rudeness" to my boss again. I just told him I am just following on what information I was given by him to do my work. Since he was not able to produce the IRAS letter of computation for the previous year tax computation, how can he expect me to produce a proper tax computation? Just wanted to tell this person that "Do not think that you came from a "Big 4" accounting firm, which I think u did tax, u know everything about it, as there are changes every year, and there are tax regulations and Income Tax Act to follow." Its a shame on yourself to tell people that u are working in a public listed firm and used to work in a "Big 4" accounting firm that u do not know about this! What&#
