Paul's Fulfilling Life

These 2 months had been the months of unexpected as I was unexpectedly called up by the authorities for assistance in investigation. It is unfortunate that I am not able to reveal further details. After that, it was an unexpected fracture of my left hand after I kicked a stone bench accidentally last Saturday after a ktv session, while on the way to dinner. The good news that I have received in the month was the expected closure of Voice Art, was put on hold, which means we would get to enjoy more singing sessions at a cosy place, owned by a popular local singer’s mum. I am heartened by the love and support that I have received from my friends, some of them, I have only known them for only a short time. One of them, on knowing that I have fractured my hand, went out of her way to get me a walking aid. =） I am really touched by her gesture. =) 塞翁失马，焉知非福。I hope that it will be better after this round of bad luck.

It has been a while since I last blogged again as I had been busy with my work, which ran into some problems. It is quite surprising that someone who is only just an audit associate partner of my company have the cheek to ask my boss that she wants to take charge of us when she will be on leave from the company. It is also surprising to note that she has been expecting freebies from us when she stationed a number of her staff at my office since Day 1. I was pretty disturbed by her comments / complaints about me not devoting 100% to my work and focusing on my volunteer work instead. I feel that this was non of her business as I do my volunteer work at outside off my working hours and moreover, you are not my boss, why are you so nosey? My boss has been aware that I have been involved in this since the day I joined the company or should I say when I was interviewed for the job. It has been a busy February & March for Paul so far. Although February was a short working month, I had decided to start working on my community e-filing project. I am helped by the fact that the Silver Generation Engagement has been stopped as the Budget announcement was only out after CNY. This new wave seems exciting as we have new things to learn and share with the seniors. I had the opportunity to meet up with my new Programme Co-Ordinator, Germaine during my 10 day break. I always believe that communication is the key to a good working relationship. So even though this is only volunteer work, I take pride in it and believe that if I am given a task to do, I should do it well. It has been a slow new year for me as this year, we did not do much house visiting. Not much house visiting can be a good thing too as some people can be pesky in asking when it is your turn to get hitched, or why are you not attached. I always tell them I am happy with where I am and prefer to let nature takes its own course. Knowing my own physical limits, I know I can handle, but to others, they may feel that I am not able to handle the strains of a relationship. Like I always say, people are always entitled to their own opinions, we cannot change what people see us sometimes despite what we have done. You may have done well at work, but because of external circumstances or environmental factors, your boss decides that you have to go, put you on enforced leave due to poor business to save costs. The recent mishap of Aloysius Phang, who passed away during a training accident in NZ on Wednesday, reminded me of the good and bad days that I had during my NS days, which lasted from Jul 2000 till Jan 2003. The good, was I had met a nice officer, during my days when serving as a clerk in Sembawang Air Base. I was given a lift by him out of camp at one instance. Little did I expect that he actually offered to pick me up from my place to camp every morning, unless he had flying duties. I will always remember his kind deed to me in this lifetime of mine. Next, I was thankful to have met my NS buddy there, who kept a lookout for me when we were in camp during our NS days together. Sadly though, he has since passed away after a battle with illness for about a year 12 years ago. It has been again a while since I last blogged. It was a busy Dec and Jan for me as some of you who have been reading my blog may have known that it was my birthday in December. I was glad that my friends and family had taken time off their busy schedule to celebrate my birthday for me since the start of Dec. It has been great to catch up with some of them, especially one of my poly mates, whom I have not met in a while. The sad thing was my brother lost his job. Let’s hope he finds another one soon. Firstly, an apology to the readers of my blog for not updating my blog for quite a while already as had been rather busy for the past few months, in my areas of concern of work, interest group and volunteering, but as always, I feel that there must a time for me to write about and take stock for the year. Work It has been a roller coaster and busy year at work, as my colleague passed away unexpectedly in a traffic accident in June. I was tasked by my boss to hunt for new staff and cover his job scope for close to 2 months. Not that I minded to learn new stuff at work, even at the age of 38 going to 39, but the office politics had been unbearable for quite a while, and to think that I had some thoughts of moving on shows just how bad it is. I am holding back due to the interest for the job, and the fear of not able to find a job due to the slow economy and the social stigma that employers in Singapore have about my disability.
