Farewell Lunch & CNY Mini Gathering

I was treated to a farewell lunch by my colleagues Q, L, I  & AT today. The two typists, who are also leaving soon were also invited.

Lunch was at the recommended Hup Kee Chicken Rice at Jalan Sultan. I must the chicken taste very good. I would like to thank them for the meal. On the same note, I would like to thank L for the little piece of advice she gave me for my new job. I am glad that she appreciates my helpful nature during my tenure here.

I was invited to a home party in the evening by my bus captain friend, Ricky & his wife, Eileen in the evening. The invitation was sealed when I took Service 16 to class on Tuesday.

The party was filled with food, prepared by Eileen. She was saying that she didn't really got a chance to sleep after being on the night shift the day before. I must say the food is delicious as it was not too salty nor too oily. The party ended with a cake cutting event as it is Ricky's birthday in 2 days time.

I really enjoy the meet up & chat session with Ricky & his wife. I hope to have an opportunity to see their children soon. They are not in Singapore now, but in Kuching.

House Visiting & AVietnamese Girlfriend For Me??

I started my day early today at 8.30am. I was helping my mum with the flower decoration & slept at 1am last night. Had received CNY sms messages from my ex colleague, LS, Angela, Rebecca, Darling, Caifeng, Huixuan, Huiyu, Mac, Jaslyn, Joey, Candy , Kelvin, Rich & Mike. Thanks for all your well wishes, my friends. The 1st stop was at my grandma's place, which we were lucky to get a cab almost immediately after waiting for just a short while. In the ride, my mum & I were chatting casually about some issues that happened in S'pore recently, when we actually touched on the old cobbler cheating Vietnamese gals to be his bride. The cabby told us an incident that happened to his friend. His friend, a guy aged 39 had married a Thai gal aged 23 some years ago. Soon after, they became parents to a baby boy. When the boy turned 3, the gal took away the money in the joint bank account with her husband. The savings totalled to about $100,000, which the guy had saved for years fr...

There are certain things which some Chinese are pretty particular with:- Happy and sad events can't clash together within 100 days to a year. If a relative or loved one were to pass away, the immediate family member can't attend a happy event, like wedding & housewarming. The Teochews treat their eldest male grandchild as their youngest son. If you are getting married & your friend who is getting married invites you to his wedding, u are not allowed to attend. The old people say happy events clash. The red packet can't be given twice for a happy event. Likewise for the condolence packet. One should not give shoes or lamp to a birthday boy or gal, as it is believed that you may bring the person to his deathbed. These are some interesting stuff to share, especially to some blog readers who are not living in a place filled with Chinese.
