The Year 2010 In Review

I decided to the review for this year early as I will be quite busy over the next few days, till over the New Year. This year has been a mixed year for me, but overall I feel that it has been good, except for the swindle incident that happened to me in April this year. Till today, I am still baffled by what made me part my money to the swindler. It was a substantial sum lost, but a good lesson learnt. Work My work is going on very well. I am glad that my bosses and manager have been having a lot of faith and confidence in me. I am trying my best not to disappoint them. So far, I think I am doing great, since they are rewarding me accordingly. Study All is not well on the study front as I failed my ACCA Professional Accountant paper again. I have tried all the professional papers for the past 3 years and the results are not showing. I have since decided to stop taking ACCA as I feel that I am not out to be an accountant or CPA or auditor. My disability has certainly prevented

I thought of putting my 1st experience of singing live on here, but I can’t seem to embed the videos in here. For those who are really interested to find out how I fared, please check out my profile on Facebook. Thanks to Ann for helping me to record and upload the videos.

Christmas Celebrations 2010

Image
I had prepared my usual Ferrero Rocher chocolates to share the joy of giving for Christmas once again this year. This year, I was only able to give 1 Ferrero Rocher chocolate to each of my colleague and my bosses as my office had an increase in headcount. I hope my colleague won’t say that I am stingy. I was invited by Ivy to join her friends and some of our Singing @ K friends at Music Dreamer Live Café, affectionately known as “爱琴海”for the Christmas countdown on Christmas Eve. Since I was early as I knocked off at 4pm, I messaged Ivy that I would be reserving their seats at the food court. Evelyn was smsing me that I was very early and she would be late, arriving at 6pm. I was at the food court by 5.15pm, after looking at the MP4 players at the Creative Technology store. Ivy, followed by her friends, Jace, Bingying (who is actually my poly mate at Ngee Ann,but we didn’t get the chance to know each other, despite seeing each other at the lectures.) Daniel came in. Surprise from SBS Transit

I was surprised to receive this email from SBS Transit’s Corporate Communications Department today. Dear Mr Lee We are dismayed to learn about the incident involving one of our Bus Captains, which was posted in your blog. We wish to assure you that passenger safety is one of our top priorities. Hence, we would be investigating this case and taking action against the Bus Captain concerned should he be found to have gone against our regulations. As such, could we trouble you to provide us information about the following: Date of incident: Time of incident: Your EZlink card number: (This is so we can retrieve the data captured in our system based on your boarding time and date) Thank you very much in advance. Serene Siew Assistant Vice President Corporate Communications SBS Transit I have since replied to her e-mail. I am surprised that the AVP of SBS Transit reads my blog and decides to send this e-mail to me. Looks like the power

Dangerous Bus Driving

Image
I was on my way home after dinner from Far East Plaza. People who know me will know why I usually take a bus home, rather than the train. I boarded the Service 143 (SBS 7489L) that came along about 10 minutes after waiting at the bus stop. On the bus, there was a passenger-in wheelchair. I could feel that the bus was running behind schedule, as the bus driver was somehow going quite fast. As the bus was turning right approaching the bus interchange, the passenger-in wheelchair suddenly followed the bus sharp right turn and his face actually hit the exit door of the bus. I shouted at the bus driver to stop the bus, which he did and tried to help the passenger-in wheelchair. Fortunately, the passenger was not hurt. How did the China bus driver forget to lock the passenger’s wheelchair, causing the passenger-in wheelchair to move at the same time when the bus turns? Why did the China bus driver turn so fast after the traffic light before Toa Payoh Interchange? This shows that th

Movie Marathon Day

Image
The last day of my leave ended up to be a movie marathon day with Wendy after this young lass asked me to catch 2 movies with her at Cinelesiure Orchard after her job interview. Movie 1: Rapunzel: A Tangled Tale Movie 2: The Chronicles Of Narnia : Voyage of the Dawn Treader Actually, Wendy wanted to catch Dorameon, but the timing did not suit us for the movie marathon that we planned today. Of the 2 movies, I enjoyed The Chronicles of Narnia more than Rapunzel, although Rapunzel is more funny in some of the parts. After the movie, I met up with Linda, my insurance agent at Nex @ Serangoon, where we had Japanese food at Shabu-Sushi Buffet Restaurant at B1. The advert on the outside of the restaurant looks fantastic, but the food we had shows a lack of variety. Even the ice-cream lacks variety, with only 2 flavours to choose from. I would not go to that place for dinner again.

Touched By My Friends

Image
Special thanks to Evelyn for taking photos for the creation of my designer birthday cake. Thanks Ivy, Betty & Evelyn for their wonderful art & crafts skills. I am truly touched by it. I never had the opportunity to try out designing a cake by myself, let alone eat a designer cake. My birthday this year has been made extra special by my 3 friends, Ivy, Betty & Evelyn who came up with the idea to design my birthday cake. I was truly touched by their gesture, as I have only known them for a period ranging from about 2 months to a year plus. I never thought that my friendship with them could have occupied such a special place in their hearts. I was surprised to read in the album description on Facebook by Evelyn “2pm plus.. Rush rush to... "Icing RooM"... TO DIY birthday cake for our beloved Paul.. Aiyoh first time going to DO cake by ourselves.. SOoo.. Exciting& Nervous!!” I wonder how I am going to thank them enough. =)

My Birthday Celebration KTV

Image
The guest list was finalised last month. There were some people that I have left out from the group as I was not close to them and due to some other reasons, This year’s celebration was slightly smaller than the last one, as there were 4 last minute pullouts due to illness. I hope Candice, Lanny, David & Wendy will be able to recover from their illness soon. =) I started off with lunch with Chairman, Chloe, Gonnie & Jessica. I was sorry that I made you guys wait for me at Xin Wang Café at ION Orchard as there was a bad traffic jam at the entrance into ION Orchard. My cake after the lunch, courtesy of Chloe, Gonnie & Jessica. This was going to be my 1st of 2 birthday cakes for the day. 3 of my lunch partners, Jessica, Chloe & Gonnie. Thanks Chairman for helping us to take this pic.=) After the hasty lunch, we proceeded over the KTV room at International Building, where my brother, Jonathan Teo had been waiting for us. I had enlisted his help to assist me to split t

Pre-Birthday Visit to MBS

Image
The initial plan was to go to Resorts World Sentosa & the Universal Studios, but I could not get the tickets to that place, so I decided that I shall not waste Day 2 of my leave. I told mum that since we could not get the tickets to the RWS & USS, we would go to MBS instead. I thought the MBS was quite a nice place and it seems a more suitable for me to tour for a person with a physical challenge and I am not a gaming person so USS may not be the place for me to have fun. I felt that the view from the Skypark was great. It was really worth the $20. We actually took about 80 pics, but I thought that Facebook will be a better place to showcase the pics, as if I were to load them here, the page is going to long time to load. =) Please refer to the following link for the photos. =) http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=253610&id=611359352&l=b605d63db7 I would like to thank mum and my brother for accompanying me for the visit. =)

On Leave Day 1

My boss had asked me to change my proposed leave plan from Jan 2011 to Dec 2010. As such, I decided to clear them from 16 Dec 2010 to 21 Dec 2010. That was the only window that I could clear my leave as my manager was on leave before that and I thought it was only right that I should have some days to hand over to her before going on leave. My volunteer friend, Wendy has been looking actively for a job, since she left her temp assignment about a month ago. Her family members have been nagging about her about money matters and not having a job since then. I met up with her on Thursday at Suntec City at the Sizzler for lunch to try to cheer her up and give her some advice. Little did I expected to be her Guidance System for the afternoon. Accompanied her to her job agent’s interview at Bugis Village, before going to MacPherson for the interview. We had a hard time locating the place as the job agent had given us the wrong direction. It ended up we took about half an hour to find th

Dinner @ Glasshouse Fish & Co

I was asked by Weng Kiat to join Ivy, Betty, Ann & Alex to join them for dinner at the Glasshouse, near Park Mall for dinner on Tuesday. I was there rather early as my office was rather near to the place. We met at Plaza Singapura before walking over to the Glasshouse for dinner. It has been a while since I was at the Glasshouse and I really enjoyed the atomsphere and the band. =)

1st Family Day On Sunday

Mum has been lobbying for us to try to fix a day in the week as Family Day. Her reason was all of us are either working or serving NS, therefore the family members have not been able to find out what has been going on with one another. I feel that it was good, so I told my mum that we should fix Sunday as Family Day. The first family day happened on Sunday, after I managed to call my brother back from his church service. He has been resistant to the idea, as he felt that a 2 hour stay at home accompanying us is sufficient. We went to visit my grandma at the old folks home, as it has been a while since we visited her. She was surprised but happy that we showed up together. My mum helped her to do some movement exercises, while we chatted with her. After the visit, dad, mum & I took Service 147, wanting to get home. But as the bus passed by Nex Mall at Serangoon, dad said that he wanted to do a tour of the mall, which is jointly developed by the company he is currently working

Dinner @ Changi Airport On Sat

Image
The initial plan was to catch the Thai- Korean movie, Hello Stranger at Marina Square or Plaza Singapura, but we could not get good seats, therefore we had to scrap the plan. The plan was changed to Changi Airport Terminal 2, where I met up with Ivy, Betty & Ann, who invited their friends, Winnie, Daniel, Tian & Paul Lim to join us. Dinner was at Sakae Sushi. I was surprised to see my audit partner, HL with his family at the airport with his family. They were like us, going to airport for dinner. It was nice to know new friends every now and then.

Quotable Quote

Image
My boss and I were working on a tax case where the company was going to be struck off the register. My boss had commented that the couple went on to divorce each other as they had different views on running the business. She went on to say that I must choose a life partner carefully, otherwise it is best not to marry. I was quite surprised about what my friends wrote after I posted this as a Facebook status message. Nana Lau Very true ! Totally agree!:) 蜜蜜甜 single..very lonely when old leh... Terence Tan Totally agree with your boss on this! Many couples nowdays are just getting married just to get a flat or think they are getting old without knowing the true meaning of love in a marriage... Chloe Qiqi i disagree on this though cos how u define as choose ur life partner carefully without even gg thru a rship urself n learn fr each other as u both grow Quek Chin Long if choose wrongly have to suffer another 30 yrs. Alexandra Ai Ling Wee I agree with what your boss sa

KTV Session

Image
I had decided to join the KTV session that Raymond organised yesterday as I knew I had to relax a little before heading back to my heavy workload on Monday as my manager is on overseas leave again, therefore I need to cover her portfolio once again. I also would like to thank him for playing a part in helping me out last Sat and I hoped he was not angry when one of our common friends chased him to go home while trying to help me solve the problem that day. Fortunately, he was not angry and understood where I was coming from. The venue was at Partyworld Vivo City, one of the small branches of the Partyworld venues. I was in the same room as Robin,Stephen, Desmond, Ernest, Ivy & Betty. Nearly forgotten about this “God of Songs” rendition of this song in his English songs album until I heard Stephen sang this yesterday Haven’t sang this song for quite a while, Betty was commenting that this song is better than the 100 days songs by him. Was requested by Alex to do this song to

Tour of Nex Mall For 2nd Time

My parents had wanted to see what was the new Nex Mall at Serangoon Central like, especially my dad, as the company he works in is a part owner of the Mall. Met up with them for dinner at the Food Republic at Basement 2, and allowed them to use the discount card given to me by my boss. After that, my mum & I decided to walk around the mall as I didn’t really explore the mall during my 1st visit as it was not fully opened yet. Went to the Istean first, but mum saw an accessory which she thought my cousin would like, and bought it for her. The price was cheap. After that, we went to explore Level 4, where I found the Partyworld KTV & the cinema. The KTV seems small,  from the looks of it. But I will definitely try to explore it and use its facilities with my group members when it opens. We also explored the NTUC Fairprice Hypermarket before calling it a night.

Birthday Celebration For Wendy

Image
Picture courtesy of Swensens website I was asked by my fellow IRAS volunteer friend, Wendy to join her for her birthday celebration dinner yesterday. The dinner was supposed to be at Sizzler at Toa Payoh but I requested to change it at the last minute yesterday to Bishan Junction 8 as it was raining heavily. I acceded to the birthday gal’s request to go to Swensens, as I have the HSBC Credit Card which Swensens accepts for discount. I managed to reach there by 7.15pm, 15 minutes after our appointed time. I nearly forgot about her birthday gift, until I managed to find some time to get her what she wanted as a birthday present, albeit a second choice one, as  I tried hunting very hard at the bookstore for that the day before. I was quite surprised that she ordered a main course, fries & a Firehouse Happy Birthday ice-cream. That’s quite a surprise to see a lady with such a huge appetite. I knew that she was not going to be able to finish the ice-cream, so I ordered a light

Chee Ping & Angela’s Wedding

Image
Jonathan & I were specially invited to this solemnization ceremony cum wedding lunch by Chee Peng & Angela. It was fortunate that my corporate tax deadline was just over yesterday. My leave was actually applied somewhere in September when I was told that I would be invited for this. The solemnization ceremony cum wedding lunch was held at Fort Canning Park, at a hilltop room, called Raffles House. I had thought of meeting up with Jonathan at Dhoby Ghaut MRT and going there in a cab together, but was advised by him to take a cab straight from my house to there instead as according to the attached map on the wedding invite, the venue was not near any MRT station & there was a need to walk a long way up to the venue. I took a cab there, as I knew it was not appropriate to be seen sweating buckets while in my formal wear. The cab could only stop at the guard post . Fortunately there was a bogey driver who drove us up to the venue, which was about 25 min walk for me if I w
