Meetup with Poly Mates

Wed: Met up with Richard at Somerset to register for our revision class and had dinner at Long John Silvers. We did some catching up, since we have not met up each other since our last exam in June. Chatted for close to 2 hrs before calling it a nite.



Today: Met up with Caifeng, Kelvin, Von & Von's bf, Desmond at Orchard Paragon Soup Restaurant for a catch up session. It has been a while since I met up with them. Caifeng announced that she is expecting a baby gal due in Dec, while Von introduced her new bf to us. Desmond, although younger than Von, seems quite a Mr Nice Guy and a good match for Von.

Was sharing with them about the enhanced paternity leave & baby bonus package announced yesterday by the Finance Minister. I felt that it was good, but my manager was commenting that rearing a child is not just a 6 years commitment but it is a lifetime commitment, therefore the child relief should be given, so long as the taxpayer has a child.

We had a good time enjoying the food, but the restaurant was like a sauna as the air con does not seem to be working well, making us sweat as we were eating.

After the meal, we made our way home seperately.

House Visiting & AVietnamese Girlfriend For Me??

I started my day early today at 8.30am. I was helping my mum with the flower decoration & slept at 1am last night. Had received CNY sms messages from my ex colleague, LS, Angela, Rebecca, Darling, Caifeng, Huixuan, Huiyu, Mac, Jaslyn, Joey, Candy , Kelvin, Rich & Mike. Thanks for all your well wishes, my friends. The 1st stop was at my grandma's place, which we were lucky to get a cab almost immediately after waiting for just a short while. In the ride, my mum & I were chatting casually about some issues that happened in S'pore recently, when we actually touched on the old cobbler cheating Vietnamese gals to be his bride. The cabby told us an incident that happened to his friend. His friend, a guy aged 39 had married a Thai gal aged 23 some years ago. Soon after, they became parents to a baby boy. There are certain things which some Chinese are pretty particular with:- Happy and sad events can't clash together within 100 days to a year. If a relative or loved one were to pass away, the immediate family member can't attend a happy event, like wedding & housewarming. The Teochews treat their eldest male grandchild as their youngest son. If you are getting married & your friend who is getting married invites you to his wedding, u are not allowed to attend. The old people say happy events clash. The red packet can't be given twice for a happy event. Likewise for the condolence packet. One should not give shoes or lamp to a birthday boy or gal, as it is believed that you may bring the person to his deathbed. These are some interesting stuff to share, especially to some blog readers who are not living in a place filled with Chinese.
