Obstacles In Having A Relationship In Singapore
The time of the year is approaching us once again this coming weekend. What day is it? The answer is Valentine's Day. I am glad that I won't be all alone as I will be joining my friends for a planned event for the weekend. It will be a good destresser for the workload that I be having for the past two weeks and divert my thoughts away from the upcoming release of my ACCA results on 16 Feb 2009.
I had caught up with some of my single friends recently in one way or another. They were sharing with me about their views about having a relationship in Singapore which I thought will be good to share it here. Please note that the situations mentioned below are just some examples to illisturate the points mentioned. No names are mentioned to protect the identities. Please do not let your imagination run wild.
Merger of SDU & SDS
The merger was to try to enable the members of the 2 government linked organisations which specialised in matchmaking to pool their resources together and allow each organisation's members to interact with one another. We have some doubts that this will work, as both organisations catered to different groups, one for grads, the other for non grads. It may not work as there is a perceived gap in the merger in terms of education level. Their events are also pretty expensive and not really appealing to some of the members. Some people just gave up after joining one or two events.
Housing & Accomodation
Singapore is considered as one of Asia's most expensive places to live in. There is a disparity in the market whereby the new flats that are smaller but more expensive than a similar flat in the resale market. Many people, if they do their calculations properly, will make the right choice about which type of flat to buy.
Approach Towards The Opposite Sex
I am sure most of you do have nasty first date experiences, be it you are a guy or gal. Sometimes, it is hard to put it across to the other party that you do like him/ her to show you some respect before rushing to do certain things. Some people neglect the fact that people need personal space as well
Respect to Each Others' Friends & Families
"A type of rice feeds many types of people". Some people likes their partners to respect their friends and families, but some people, when in a relationship will tend to feel that having a relationship is more important, therefore it is expected of their partners to spend all available time with them.
With all these obstacles, it is sometimes good to take it easy and sit back & relax when it comes to affairs of the heart.
