1st Day of Volunteer E-Filing

Yesterday was the 1st day of the Volunteer e-filing session. This was the start of my 8th year doing this.

I was not surprised that there were going to be problems yesterday, but I certainly didn’t expect the two workstations that my volunteer partner, Haris and I to be laid stumped by the breakdown of the modem. We were laid low by an hour, before Angie, the CC Management Exec Officer, decided to let us use the CC’s office computers to help the residents e-file their tax return as the queue was really long. Both of us did about 40 taxpayers together yesterday.

We had 2 surprise visitors yesterday. The first was IRAS Corporate Communication Director, Ms Deanna Choo, who told us to help to publicise the use of GIRO to pay income tax. IRAS has this ongoing publicity campaign to encourage taxpayers to pay by GIRO. The 2nd visitor was the MP for the area, 2nd Finance Minister, Mrs Lim Hwee Hua. I guessed she visited at the wrong time, as when she visited she saw that the computer systems were down. I was a little surprised that she still remember me. I had a good few minutes chatting with her.

We also had the chance to see Angie’s baby son, who is 6 months old. She had brought him to work yesterday as there were no one to look after him.

I joined the Facebook Foodies Club for dinner at Bacchus last night. Yesterday was with a smaller group of people with 11 people. It meant that I had a chance to interact with people and enjoy good food at the same time. I certainly had a good time knowing Deborah, Rene, Wenna, Chris & Catherine. The good part was having my singing buddy, Jonathan around as well, making me able to enjoy the dinner and making friends with relative ease. I must say I enjoyed the food, that I ordered. I ordered the Flumuken,Bawhrust susages and tiramisu cake. You must be thinking that why I ordered so much food. I must say I was very hungry as I didn’t have a filling lunch. Although, it burned a hole in my pocket, but it is certainly good to indulge in myself sometimes! I like the ambience of the restuarant. My Hosting Script for The National Day Event

I just managed to work out the draft hosting script for the National Day Event I am hosting. I am thankful for all the comments that I have received from my fellow RC members and friends. Just feel that sometimes, no matter whatever you do, some people, no matter for what reasons, will not be happy with the arrangements. I just wish to say that I am already trying my best to try to get this event going, considering the fact, that this is the 1st time I am organising an RC event. I have also tried my best, despite the fact that I would like to have a free hand to organise the event, just like what I usually do for the KTV events I have on Facebook, I accommodated to the requests that I should somehow follow the past years’ format to do the event. I know that I am not very familiar with how things are run at the RC, therefore in the end, my organising committee only made some changes to the event as we had a limited budget to work on. June Musings

 It has been a while since I last blogged. Since then, I am settling well into my role, although there were some incomings and outgoings, which are common in any workplace.   I managed to catch a last glimpse of Yishun Orto before it closed on 30 June. I would like Leonard, Wendy & Michael, as without them performing at the Happiest Hour Bar & Bistro, I guess I would never go to this place, as I had not so fond memories of a nearby place during my NS days.   I did not manage to get A* Mei or Jacky Cheung concert tickets this round. It could be a sign for me to build up my savings again after an unstable 3 years on the job front. I hope to stay on this job for a while despite its lack of transport amenities and lack of shelters for rain as it is not often that you can have great teams of colleagues and bosses with whom you can get along well. I guess having a boss who is differently abled helps me to settle in well as colleagues tend to be more understanding and caring.
