IRAS VES Training Session

I was not very keen to attend the session as they are covering the things that I know, by virtue that I am working in this line for the past 11 years and  I have been seething with anger about one of the fellow volunteers stealing away the other volunteer’s credit for the VES exercise the past two years mentioned in 2 blog posts ago.

This year, I roped in 2 new friends of mine, Patricia & Baoshan  to join us as they are  interested to learn more about personal income tax. It is good to see more young people coming forward to help in our common cause.

The training was alright, but I was surprised that the IRAS trainers made several mistakes in the training session which I thought it was not acceptable as such mistakes have a huge impact on a taxpayer’s compliance records.

I hope that the coming VES will not be plagued by problems like last year.

Hi Paul, it is commendable that you have been a volunteer for such a long time...keep it up :)

For the mistakes presented during the training session, perhaps you can speak with them so that they don't make the same mistake again.

There are certain things which some Chinese are pretty particular with:- Happy and sad events can't clash together within 100 days to a year. If a relative or loved one were to pass away, the immediate family member can't attend a happy event, like wedding & housewarming. The Teochews treat their eldest male grandchild as their youngest son. If you are getting married & your friend who is getting married invites you to his wedding, u are not allowed to attend. The old people say happy events clash. The red packet can't be given twice for a happy event. Likewise for the condolence packet. One should not give shoes or lamp to a birthday boy or gal, as it is believed that you may bring the person to his deathbed. These are some interesting stuff to share, especially to some blog readers who are not living in a place filled with Chinese.

Movie Outing Plan With Fellow Blogger Friends

I guess Darling, SR & Rich want to watch "Memiors of A Geisha", especially after the ladies were so engrossed in the book at MPH during our last meeting. House Visiting & AVietnamese Girlfriend For Me??

I started my day early today at 8.30am. I was helping my mum with the flower decoration & slept at 1am last night. Had received CNY sms messages from my ex colleague, LS, Angela, Rebecca, Darling, Caifeng, Huixuan, Huiyu, Mac, Jaslyn, Joey, Candy , Kelvin, Rich & Mike. Thanks for all your well wishes, my friends. The 1st stop was at my grandma's place, which we were lucky to get a cab almost immediately after waiting for just a short while. In the ride, my mum & I were chatting casually about some issues that happened in S'pore recently, when we actually touched on the old cobbler cheating Vietnamese gals to be his bride. The cabby told us an incident that happened to his friend. His friend, a guy aged 39 had married a Thai gal aged 23 some years ago. Soon after, they became parents to a baby boy.
