华文华语的退化

My colleagues were discussing about this topic for lunch today, after one of them actually brought up the need to get a Chinese electronic dictionary for Chinese exam purposes.

It seems like my colleagues, all of them from Chinese mainstream schools have a lot to say about the above measure. Q said,”当初,我们学英文的时侯,我们并不可以带词典或字典, 现在,有很多华人因为认为华文太难,所以, 我国的华文教材一直在减少.如今,中国已经起飞,我国的人才如何与别人比?”

On hearing that, I can’t help but agree. I wonder how many of our peers can read the short sentences that I wrote in my previous paragraph. We also mentioned some of our views about the education system, especially the Chinese syllabus, but I don’t think it is printable here.

I just hope a serious rethink about our education system is on the way.

"in the past, when we learnt English, we were not allowed to bring in dictionaries. Yet now, many Chinese think learning Mandarin is too tough, thereby lowering the standard of teaching materials. With the opening up of CHina now, how can we compete with them?"

True. In fact, if you see how much effort they put into learning English, you'd be ashamed to even tell other people you come from a multi-racial and lingual country.

We need to buck up, but with no motivation, we'll remain where we are and rot.....

fully agreed with ka..
fyi wen we are allow to bring in dictionary. I try not to flip it as it realy hinder the timing of finishing my paper. The time to flip to the word that i want i rather spend more time knowing it which i can keep it for a life time

Thanks ladies, u gals share the same views as me. For the dictionary part, mentioned by Darling, I also did the same. Try to use words to sub for those words that I dunno.

I wished I could have done better. I only got a B3 for my Chinese in O Levels.

thing is, the moment you need to open that damn dictionary, you start to panic cos you have to know which page to flip to, blah blah blah.. by the time you locate the word, I think you'd have forgotten what to write... sigh...

I do the same as what the others have done. REplace the words with easier ones, or simply, rephrase..

Agree with Ka. U can't label on the dictionary the pinyin as it will be considered as cheating.
So for me, I don't want to waste time & disrupt my train of thoughts for the story or commentary I am writing.
