English - An Important Subject In Our Education System

My twin cousins had just received their GCE 'O' Level results on Friday. I called them up yesterday to see if they needed my assistance to advise them. I knew that the younger twin had failed her English, and was at a loss about what was best for her. Despite the setback, both of them did well, scoring 15 points & 14 points for 6 subjects.

Both of them had a fear for the GP, so are not willing to continue on the 3 months that they have started in JC. They have a common interest though, to enter into Business Studies or Accountancy. I told the younger one that she can try to apply through the DAE scheme, which allows conditional entry for certain courses and Accountancy is one of them.

I hope they will be able to make the right choice and enjoy their next stage of study.

House Visiting & AVietnamese Girlfriend For Me??

I started my day early today at 8.30am. I was helping my mum with the flower decoration & slept at 1am last night. Had received CNY sms messages from my ex colleague, LS, Angela, Rebecca, Darling, Caifeng, Huixuan, Huiyu, Mac, Jaslyn, Joey, Candy , Kelvin, Rich & Mike. Thanks for all your well wishes, my friends. The 1st stop was at my grandma's place, which we were lucky to get a cab almost immediately after waiting for just a short while. In the ride, my mum & I were chatting casually about some issues that happened in S'pore recently, when we actually touched on the old cobbler cheating Vietnamese gals to be his bride. The cabby told us an incident that happened to his friend. His friend, a guy aged 39 had married a Thai gal aged 23 some years ago. Soon after, they became parents to a baby boy. There are certain things which some Chinese are pretty particular with:- Happy and sad events can't clash together within 100 days to a year. If a relative or loved one were to pass away, the immediate family member can't attend a happy event, like wedding & housewarming. The Teochews treat their eldest male grandchild as their youngest son. If you are getting married & your friend who is getting married invites you to his wedding, u are not allowed to attend. The old people say happy events clash. The red packet can't be given twice for a happy event. Likewise for the condolence packet. One should not give shoes or lamp to a birthday boy or gal, as it is believed that you may bring the person to his deathbed. These are some interesting stuff to share, especially to some blog readers who are not living in a place filled with Chinese.
