Company Annual Dinner

Yesterday, I attended my company annual dinner. It was the 1st time that I have joined my colleagues for a company function. I must say I enjoyed myself, not because of the food, because I didn't have the chance to eat very much as my table had a greedy colleague who only knew only how to eat, drink water and gossip about people. I just wonder if someone could teach her some table manners? The sight of her finishing the whole plate of peanuts on her own without thinking of others makes me cringe.

However, my bosses surprised me when they told me in the afternoon that there was a ktv set at the function room and they expected me to sing. When I was at the venue, I was a little scared to sing in front of about 50 people, but the sight of that colleague mentioned above, made me ate little and I wanted to avoid her, therefore I just started at her urging.

Was asked to sing the video below, but didn't do it too well at first.

I was a back up for this song for one of my lunch partner

This song got my bosses standing up and sang with me.

 

Although I didn't get to enjoy the food, I am glad that my colleagues enjoy the songs that I  sang for them.

There are certain things which some Chinese are pretty particular with:- Happy and sad events can't clash together within 100 days to a year. If a relative or loved one were to pass away, the immediate family member can't attend a happy event, like wedding & housewarming. The Teochews treat their eldest male grandchild as their youngest son. If you are getting married & your friend who is getting married invites you to his wedding, u are not allowed to attend. The old people say happy events clash. The red packet can't be given twice for a happy event. Likewise for the condolence packet. One should not give shoes or lamp to a birthday boy or gal, as it is believed that you may bring the person to his deathbed. These are some interesting stuff to share, especially to some blog readers who are not living in a place filled with Chinese.

Movie Outing Plan With Fellow Blogger Friends

I guess Darling, SR & Rich want to watch "Memiors of A Geisha", especially after the ladies were so engrossed in the book at MPH during our last meeting. House Visiting & AVietnamese Girlfriend For Me??

I started my day early today at 8.30am. I was helping my mum with the flower decoration & slept at 1am last night. Had received CNY sms messages from my ex colleague, LS, Angela, Rebecca, Darling, Caifeng, Huixuan, Huiyu, Mac, Jaslyn, Joey, Candy , Kelvin, Rich & Mike. Thanks for all your well wishes, my friends. The 1st stop was at my grandma's place, which we were lucky to get a cab almost immediately after waiting for just a short while. In the ride, my mum & I were chatting casually about some issues that happened in S'pore recently, when we actually touched on the old cobbler cheating Vietnamese gals to be his bride. The cabby told us an incident that happened to his friend. His friend, a guy aged 39 had married a Thai gal aged 23 some years ago. Soon after, they became parents to a baby boy.
