IRAS VES Appreciation Ceremony 2013

The VES Appreciation Ceremony for this year was very different from the past. Please allow me to go through the differences for this year which was different from the past.

The event was held at Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park on a Saturday morning on 25 May, in a major departure from the past where it was usually held at the Revenue House at Novena in June. We had a new Commissioner, Dr Tan Kim Siew, as the previous Commissioner, Mr Moses Lee moved on to his new post at Sentosa Development Corporation. This was also the first time, which the Commissioner did not give out any award to the award winners. Instead he presented the prizes to the GIRO Lucky Draw winners and we had received our awards from Ms Jessica Tan, MP for East Coast GRC, GPC Chairman for Finance & Trade & industry. There was a celebrity host for the event, Ms Belinda Lee, Mediacorp actress. I was surprised by her frankness and her request to have a photo with me, before the end of the event.

This was also the 1st time my mum was not able to attend the event as it was the long weekend and she decided to go for a short trip with my dad & his classmates so I got some of my friends to join me. I was glad that Ann, Jue Liang, Alex, Sharon accepted my invite and actually made their way from the East & West of Singapore to grace the event. I would like to thank them for gracing the event. For those who were not able to come due to various reasons, I appreciate the support from you guys and gals.

I was certainly surprised to find my photo with Belinda on her official Facebook Page two days later. I was alerted by my volunteer friend that I had appeared on Belinda’s official Facebook page. It was certainly a nice surprise. I would like to thank her for those encouraging words. =)

I joined the Facebook Foodies Club for dinner at Bacchus last night. Yesterday was with a smaller group of people with 11 people. It meant that I had a chance to interact with people and enjoy good food at the same time. I certainly had a good time knowing Deborah, Rene, Wenna, Chris & Catherine. The good part was having my singing buddy, Jonathan around as well, making me able to enjoy the dinner and making friends with relative ease. I must say I enjoyed the food, that I ordered. I ordered the Flumuken,Bawhrust susages and tiramisu cake. You must be thinking that why I ordered so much food. I must say I was very hungry as I didn’t have a filling lunch. Although, it burned a hole in my pocket, but it is certainly good to indulge in myself sometimes! I like the ambience of the restuarant. My Hosting Script for The National Day Event

I just managed to work out the draft hosting script for the National Day Event I am hosting. I am thankful for all the comments that I have received from my fellow RC members and friends. Just feel that sometimes, no matter whatever you do, some people, no matter for what reasons, will not be happy with the arrangements. I just wish to say that I am already trying my best to try to get this event going, considering the fact, that this is the 1st time I am organising an RC event. I have also tried my best, despite the fact that I would like to have a free hand to organise the event, just like what I usually do for the KTV events I have on Facebook, I accommodated to the requests that I should somehow follow the past years’ format to do the event. I know that I am not very familiar with how things are run at the RC, therefore in the end, my organising committee only made some changes to the event as we had a limited budget to work on. June Musings

 It has been a while since I last blogged. Since then, I am settling well into my role, although there were some incomings and outgoings, which are common in any workplace.   I managed to catch a last glimpse of Yishun Orto before it closed on 30 June. I would like Leonard, Wendy & Michael, as without them performing at the Happiest Hour Bar & Bistro, I guess I would never go to this place, as I had not so fond memories of a nearby place during my NS days.   I did not manage to get A* Mei or Jacky Cheung concert tickets this round. It could be a sign for me to build up my savings again after an unstable 3 years on the job front. I hope to stay on this job for a while despite its lack of transport amenities and lack of shelters for rain as it is not often that you can have great teams of colleagues and bosses with whom you can get along well. I guess having a boss who is differently abled helps me to settle in well as colleagues tend to be more understanding and caring.
