Kinship & Close Friendship

Recently so many things have happened to me & it has caused me to take a closer look if I have been too close to my friends or have I been neglecting my family. I find that from the recent things that happened, I feel that my mum has been practising double standards, where in some cases, why was it that she can do this? I can't do that? In some cases, I just feel that she is a bit old fashioned. Here are some examples Once, she was at Singapore customs, a guy conned her into lending him a sum of money. This happened a few years ago. To date she has not received any payment from that guy. I believe that sum of money was quite huge. I was also conned once too by a net friend to help her pay for 2 Jay Chou concert tickets for her friends. She later came up with a sob story that her friends were killed by the tsunami in Thailand. She said she would try to pay me, but to date, no payment was made. I have since written off the debt. Recently, my godsis, Elaine had arranged for her Bi...

Dinner With Client

Breakfast was interupted by a phone call by a famous client's personal assistant, as he had wanted to pass me his boss' company accounts to my audit dept for amendment. I told him that I was rushing for work and asked him to pass me the accounts in the evening. Went to FTC first to collect my pocket notes for my revision class coming up in 19 days. This was the 2nd time I went to the school this week, after they had failed to reserve for me the book after I called up to make the reservation for the 1st time. After that, I was asked by E, the PA to meet him at AMK MRT station where he would buy me dinner & discuss with me the messages that were to be passed to my boss. Dinner was at the AMK Blk 409 market, which was where I used to stay with my maternal grandma when I was a child. Had a filling treat from E. Thanks E!! Reached my void deck to open the letter box and found that the Season Pass which I applied for hasn't arrived. My dad's & my credit card statement...

Funny HP Batt

Image
Recently, I have found that the Samsung E640 that I have been using uses battery damn fast. It usually eats up my battery power very fast, sometimes within a day. Is it wise for me to change my hp now? Here are the few handphones which I am looking at? Maybe you guys can give me some suggestions. Or maybe this is a gift idea for my birthday. Hehe. :) But I guess I won't ask my friends to pay for it in full as some of the models are so ex. I don't mind paying part of it. Sony Ericcson K800I (same as Mr R, wonder he mind?) Samsung 9.9 Ultra Edition Samsung 6.9 Ultra Edition Samsung E900 Samsung Ultra Edition 12.9 The other 2 handphones that I have in mind are SE K610i & SE W810i. Funny thing is the pics can't put up.

Birthday Bash Guest List Update

I got some replies over the week about my birthday bash attendance. I would like to express my thanks to the guests. I have added one guest, Audrey, in view that Rebecca could not join us. Confirmed Attendance Paul (the host) My brother Elaine mei mei ZuoXin (Elaine's bf) Wendy mei mei Caifeng Stella Eriko Audrey Pending Confirmation Jason Huiyu Jimmy Bonnie Krys Kelvin Richard

First Time @ Xen Bar - A Salsa Dance Club

I have asked Audrey out for a dinner date 2 weeks ago over MSN. She only managed to reply a day before the date, and she suggested having a simple dinner and going to Xen Bar . She was asking me to get more people along. I managed to tag Jason along, while she manged to tag Eriko along, which was a surprise, as Eriko told me she will be tired after her Bichata class. Met up with Audrey for a light dinner @ MacDonald's @ Bugis Junction. Jason joined us later. After dinner, we went window shopping at Seiyu before taking a bus to Chinatown to meet Eriko to lead us there. We took a seat at the Chinatown Point Coffee Bean while we waited for Eriko. She came by about half an hour later with her friend, Meiqi. I must say Eriko looked great in her outfit, but she looked tired though. I guessed it should be due to her punishing schedule. I advised her to take care as I heard her coughing every now & then. The Xen Bar was a short walk from the MRT station. For me, it was my first time vi...

Tour Booking With Elaine

Elaine mei mei asked me to meet her to accompany her to do the tour booking for her trip to Bintan early next month. Since the tour agency is located in my office building, I decided to accompany her. Before meeting with Elaine, Rebecca smsed me the result of her medical appointment. The doc had recommended an operation for her spine in mid- Dec. This means that she can't attend my birthday. I just hope that she can be in a postive frame of mind in the run up to the operation. Dun worry Mei Mei, Kor is here to give u the support u need to overcome this! Met up with Elaine mei mei at my office building and brought her to book the tour. It seems like the period which Elaine mei mei picked for the tour is not a peak period, and I must say she paid a good and cheap price for the whole tour package. After booking the tour package, we actually wanted to try New York New York @ Citylink Mall, but the never seemed ending rain changed our mind and we chose Swensens @ Funan Centre instead as...

Brithday Bash Confirmed

I finally found the time to think about my upcoming b-day bash today. After thinking for a long time, I decided to hold it at V8 Cafe @ Bugis Junction, cause I really enjoy the good food & good service. I have decided to put the after dinner KTV session as an optional self expense item this round, as some of my new guests may not enjoy it. I shall see how the response goes before deciding if we should proceed with the optional item. Got to thank these people who responded after receiving my sms. A few of u have already confirmed your attendance. I am touched by it. Thank you. Confirmed Attendance Sis Elaine Zuo Xin (Elaine's bf) Caifeng My brother Paul (the host) Pending Richard (may have RT training, hope he can come.) Sis Rebec I shall give the rest till 7 Dec to reply. Hope I will get good response though.

Movie Review - The Prestige

Image
From acclaimed filmmaker Christopher Nolan ("Memento," "Batman Begins"), comes a mysterious story of two magicians whose intense rivalry leads them on a life-long battle for supremacy full of obsession, deceit and jealousy with dangerous and deadly consequences. From the time that they first met as young magicians on the rise, Robert Angier (HUGH JACKMAN) and Alfred Borden (CHRISTIAN BALE) were competitors. However, their friendly competition evolves into a bitter rivalry making them fierce enemies-for-life and consequently jeopardizing the lives of everyone around them. I went to watch this movie with Jason at Bishan Junction 8 but not before I went to the Olympus Service Centre @ High Street Centre at the request of my mum, to see if my old digital camera, the Olympus IR300 can be repaired at without service charge or low cost. I knew that she wanted to give the camera to my that group of cousins that spolit the camera and she told me that she wanted to give me $1...

Jolene & Mr Foon's Wedding

Image
Get Your Own! View Slideshow This was the 3rd wedding that I attended for this month. I am very happy for the bride and groom, when they decided to get hitched after a short courtship. I was awaken by my mum at about 9am, who thought that the tea ceremony was to start at about 10.30am. When we reached my uncle's house, Jolene's mum was very shocked to see us as we were super early. Her mum served us a breakfast of choclate cake & red date tea. After the breakfast, I decided to chat with Jolene's younger sister, who is 12 years younger than me, on how she felt having the whole room by herself. I can sense that she was very happy for her eldest sister. At about 11.30am, the relatives started to pour in. I can see all the smiles on the faces. I guess they are happy for the couple too. The bride & groom finally arrived at 1pm. The tea ceremony proceeded shortly after. It started off with my paternal grandma's side of relatives and ended with my mum, as my dad de...
All-in This Korean Drama was one of my favourite Korean Dramas of all time. Today, when Channel U started to repeat the show, it got me glued to the TV set again. Looks like I will enjoy my following sunday afternoons from 2-4pm.

Meeting With Sis Wendy, Elaine & Jason

Image
Firstly, I have to thank my sister Elaine for arranging this meeting for us at Mind Cafe @ Boat Quay. Although I was the one who did the reservation for the table. My sisters and NS buddy knew that my digital camera was spoiled by my cousins and tried to cheer me up during our game and makan session @ The Mind Cafe @ Boat Quay. Wendy, Elaine & I nearly lost our way to the place as we made a wrong exit at Clarke Quay MRT Station, so in the end, it was a long walk back to the station & back to the right exit after we were guided by Jason. Maybe my mind was still with my spoiled camera then. But my sisters just treated it as an excercise. When we reached the cafe, we were surprised by the lack of crowd. We just tucked in our food of 2 beef lasgne, spagetti , ice mocha float, curly fries and tarkoyaki balls, before starting our game session for 2 hours. We played Jenga, Uno, Snake & Ladders & 2 memory games before leaving the cafe. Elaine had wanted to go to the Coffee Bean...

Digital Camera Spoiled By Irresponsible Cousins

Image
My little cousins have manhandled my digital camera after they could not find the wedding photos of Claudia's wedding. I only discovered it this morning as I needed to use the camera later today for my gathering with my sisters & Jolene's wedding tomorrow. My brother had also wanted to bring the camera to his friend's Deepavali gathering later tonite. It looks like I can't use it for the upcoming events. My happy holiday mood is spoiled because of this. It looks like a trip to Olympus Service Centre at High Street Centre is inevitable on Monday. I hope it can be covered by the warranty. I have told their eldest sister, Huimin that I have downloaded the pics into my hard disk immediately after the event. Huimin was agreeable that she will bring her thumb drive to my place & I will transfer the pics to her there & then. Therefore, I do not understand why the kids were so anxious about the pics, considering the fact that they are having the O Levels next month....

Surprise Become A Non Surprise For Birthday Gal

Image
I woke up this morning to find that the birthday gal today, Stella had smsed me after midnight that the present that we bought for her contained a sure win lucky dip, which she had to claim within 2 weeks from the date of purchase with the receipt. Richard & I have made the purchase in late Sep, so it was defintely over 2 weeks & the receipt, I have thrown away as majority of them have made the payment to me after I paid for the gift first. Heard from Stella that the gift was a executive desktop. I wonder what was that? It was not stated in Seagate website that there was a lucky dip going on. I wonder if Seagate can do better advertising on this. Anyway, here's my wishes for the birthday gal. Hope that whatever u wish for come true for u, & may our friendship last!

Lunch @ Mong Hing Resturant

As mentioned in my post yesterday, Q was giving me a treat at Mong Hing Teochew Resturant, which is located at the ground level of my office building. I guessed Q was surprised that this was the 1st time that I have been to the resturant even though I have been working in Keypoint for 2.5 years. We ate the Dou Miao with Scallops, Steamed promfret, Stir Fried Chicken with Cashew Nuts & Or Ni, the famous Teochew desert. The food smelt delicious & tasted nice too. Now I knew why the resturant is featured regularly on newspapers. I managed to make Q $70 poorer. Haha. Let's see if she dares to speak ill of me again!!!

Funny Things on A Hazy Tuesday

Image
This picture was taken yesterday when the PSI hit 130 yesterday, but the view of the Benjamin Sheares Bridge from my office. Today's view was about the same. Woke up late, and was late for work today. In my haste, I didn't notice that I took 2 different colour shoes and wore to work . Fortunately, no one noticed the different colour. Wonder how I got through the day without people recognising my feet. Q is treating me to lunch tomorrow. Yes, it is that colleague that said I walked like Charlie Chaplin. I told her I want to have Mong Hing Resturant food. It is a Teochew Resturant that is located at my office building. I always see the newspaper review but no chance to try the food. Tomorrow I can try for free. I will knock her since she made that stupid remark without using her brain. Haha. You think is it a good idea?

Exhibition of the Nobel Prize Winners

Image
Initially had not wanted to join mum to see this exhibition as the hazy weather today spoiled my mood to go anywhere. But mum said this exhibition was a once in a lifetime kind of thing. and it was just a stopover in Singapore, so just went with her. I was glad that I went to the exhibition at Tampines West CC as it was a good showcase of the 3 Noble Prize winners, Gandhi, Martin Luther King & President Ikeda of SGI (Soka Gakai International Assiciation.) Got to know more of the following:- Gandhi's struggle to help India gain its independence from Britain in 1947 Martin Luther King's fight for human rights for the blacks. President Ikeda's devotion for world peace and the revolution of SGI, a Buddhist religious organisation that has spread its wings to over 163 countries. (In Singapore, the organisation is known as SSA or Singapore Soka Association with 8 centres all around Singapore) Although I have been with the SSA for about 20 years, I have not been practising as ...

New Tenant For Paul & Family

My mum can finally rest at ease as she finally managed to find someone to rent the empty room in my house. The tenant is a Flipino, who is here on employment pass as an auditor. This also means that I can't divulge much about my work stress I am at home. :( . There may be trade secrets. By the way, my new tenant has the same name as my previous domestic helper. She is 26 this year.

Stella's B-Day Gathering At the Rice Table

Image
Met up with my usual group of friends, Richard, Jason & Caifeng to celebrate Stella's birthday just now at Suntec City Rice Table. In case you are wondering, who was the guy sitting face to face with Stella, it was her brother. A bit sad though was that Huiyu could not make it at the last moment due to work commitments. I guess this is the bad part about being in the government sector, even though it is officially a 5 day working week, but you still have to go back on weekends on your own to clear your work if it can't be completed. Everyone was on time and we started with the food, which we couldn't finish as we had close to 24 small plates of dishes with plain rice. The bill was quite ok. It was lesser than expected. After that, we went for a drink at the Esplande Harry's Steakhouse. The service was quite bad. If we have the chance to be there again, I will not choose that. My friends just knew me too well. They guessed that my birthday bash will be bigger than Ri...

Date With My Sisters at V8 Cafe

Image
I have been looking forward to this meet up for quite a while already. Finally, it happened yesterday. A meetup with my sisters, Elainesg & Wendy at this cafe at Bugis Junction recommended by Elaine. Thanks to Elaine for the recommendation. The food was really good and reasonably priced, considering that there was 5 of us. The other 2 people at the dinner were Elaine's godbrother, Rong Cheng & my now famous NS buddy, Jason (after Sis Rebec put up his pic in her "Xiao Tian Tian" entry. Haha!!!) I reached there about 10 mins earlier than the scheduled time as my office was 3 stops away. Jason was already there since early afternoon. I hope the meet up cheered him up though as his work is not flowing that smoothly as one would have wished. I guessed he must have a good time knowing 3 new friends yesterday. Although it was the first time meeting with this bubbly and friendly sister of mine, Elaine was able to chat a lot with us. I was pretty worried initally that the ...

Bad Day In Office

My day in office was bad today. First thing was that a client tried to put words in my mouth by sending an e-mail telling me that I have said that this particular item withholding tax rate is X%. I have documented in my email to her previously that the withholding tax rate for that item to be at the prevailing corporate tax rate. I called her up & told her in Mandarin, not to get me into trouble as I still need my job as my family needs my support. I feel that next time if I had a chance, I may just get back at u. It doesn't pay to be nice to u, as u have treated me so nasty. I shouldn't have given u my hp no. when u asked from me in the first instance, when I joined the company, cos u have been bugging me over my weeknites & weekends too. Looks like I may have to follow my Sister Elaine's method in setting up a " Nasty Pest" Caller Group. There are now several people I wish to put there. Heard from my colleague, W that the prawn manager had told him that ...

Movie Sunday- Lower City

Image
Lower City’ follows the turbulent love story between friends Deco and Naldinho and stripper Karinna (Alice Braga from “City of God”) – a tale of jealousy, temptation and lust. ‘Lower City’ is directed by Sergio Machado and produced by the director of ‘The Motorcycle Diaries’, Walter Salles. Deco and Naldinho make their living running cargo and petty hustling on a motorboat they own as partners. When they meet stripper Karinna, both young men fall in love with her, starting a love triangle. Jealousy undermines the relationship, and the three break up, but they’re unable to remain alone. They are drawn back together, facing a path of no return. Intitally wanted to catch this movie yesterday, but due to the terrible haze that enveloped the sky for almost the whole day, I postponed it to today. I caught the show at one of my favourite cinemas, Orchard Cineleisure. I watched the movie at a special discount price, thanks to my UOB card. As I was purchasing my tickets, a Caucasian man was co...
For My Sis- Elainesg I know this is your current blog song. I thought u might want to see the MTV as well. Hope u can do well in your exam on Monday. Don't think too much. I am sure u will be able to do well. You have my support!!!

My Best Female Friend's ROM

Image
I specially took leave to witness the solmenisation ceremony of one of my best female friend in poly, Caifeng. The solmenisation ceremony took place at Excelsor Hotel, River City Resturant. It was my first time attending a solmenisation ceremony at a resturant. I was there quite early though, even though I knew the location of the hotel. I was in a happy mood, as I finally managed to see one of my best friend walking to the other end of the red carpet with a good guy, Kelvin. I went up with Yvonne to the resturant, another of my poly mate who was invited for the occassion. Jason & Huiyu were invited too, but they were unable to make it due to the short notice given by the bride & work commitments. I guess the reason was the day was a Friday, & not many people are allowed to take leave, given that it is start of the month. Yvonne & I were greeted by the bride's uncle and wife. Soon we were joined by the other family members, Caifeng's parents & younger sister...

First Wedding of The Month

Image
As promised, these are the photos as promised from the wedding dinner of Ms Claudia Hoe, my cousin & her husband, Mr Jason Boo on Wed nite. The dinner didn't start on time. It is a common feature of Chinese wedding dinners. It started about 1.5 hours behind scheduled time. The host, my 3rd aunt, was complaining that 20+ tables for the dinner was quite small, but I felt that it was quite alright, as the resturant served good food and had good ambience too. The service from the waiter and waiteress were very good too. The name of the resturant - Peony Jade Resturant at Clarke Quay. Thanks to the cameraman and camerawoman for the nite, my cousin, Huimin & my brother. This slideshow of about 40+ pics will not be possible. Of course they have to thank me for the camera. Hereby wishing the couple a happy & blissful marriage once again.

Crazy Mum Really Driving Me Nuts

I had came across a piece of news through Blogspot last nite, so decided to let mum know since she liked the "lead actress" in that piece of news so much. She had the same reaction as me, stunned. I just wish for happiness for the couple in their upcoming marriage. My mum is still blaming me for causing the rift in the friendship with "lead actress". She was saying that, " My son is not showing enough concern towards gals, that's the reason why he can't get a gf." I just retorted and said, " Seeing my friends & relatives getting married makes me not want to get married anymore." I am glad that I took most of my friends' advice, by not letting her know that a gal has set my heart moving recently, otherwise she would start her relentless nagging to ask me to be quick to get the gal & frighten people away. Was surprised that Claudia asked my mum why I did not attend her tea ceremony and church wedding today. I just told mum to ex...

Doc Orders Paul To Be At Home Again

The haze was back in Singapore on Sunday and I guessed it got worse yesterday. I have been sick since Thursday with a sore throat. It seemed to get worse over the weekend as the flu bug decided to join in. I finished my whole course of medicine yesterday, so I went to see the doc again last nite. The doc gave me a more powerful cough mixture, flu tablets & losenges and another MC for me to rest at home today. Thanks to my 3 sisters and Jason for their lovely sms to ask me to take care of myself. I really appreciate the care & concern.

Questions?

Was inspired to write this article due to many things happening around me recently. Do you think that a family member should sideline his other family members just because that particular member was not too well off, or in their own words, a second class family member? Do you feel that 2 long-time friends / close friends can come up with a stupid excuse / fly aeroplane to skip a meet up or a happy occassion of the other party due to because they wanted to save money for the event? Examples for Question 1 will be: - A family member, B had fallen down at home several weeks ago. C was not aware of this until Relative D talked about it in a conversation. C went home and told his parents that B had fallen at home some weeks ago. His mum & him went to visit B , but when we reached there, C and his mum was asked by Relative F what they were doing at their place? It seems like C & his parents are not part of the family and had no right to visit B. If u r C or C's parents what would...

Visit To SGH

Image
Picture courtesy of Noel Gifts I was supposed to have met up with my 2 sisters today but I got an sms message from Sis Elaine that her dad was admitted to SGH for a servere bout of food poisoning when I switched on my hp. Intitally she suggested postponing the appointment to the evening , but I guess her dad was in serious condition, so she cancelled the appointment. At first, she felt bad about not being able to meet us, but I told her, her dad's food poisoning was a case of unexpected circumstance, as a result, I can understand the cancellation. I hereby wish her dad to get well soon. I was at SGH later to visit my grandma though as I could not find time to visit her yesterday, after my dad asked my brother & I to go to the CC to listen to a karaoke singing competition last nite. ( It was boring and the singing standards of the singers was not even on par with those who sang at the competition that my dad participated last week. Furthermore, my dad was barred from entering th...
